Yeast: Saccharomyces Cerevisiae: The Rise And Fall Of This Essential Probiotic

There are countless misinformed social media groups describing the perceived dangers of
Saccharomyces Cerevisiae also known as Brewer’s Yeast or Nutritional Yeast in dogs and
cats. In fact, this ancient organism has been an inhabitant of all mammals since time
immemorial. It is a probiotic, helping to protect the body from invasion and overgrowth by
pathogenic organisms, like Candida Albicans.

Saccharomyces Cerevisiae is a complete protein and a great source of B vitamins,
especially vitamins B1, B2, B3, B5, B6, B7, B9, and provides all the essential amino acids
required by the mammalian body. The carbohydrate component is about 50% fibre, a
valuable nutrient for all the other probiotics in the gut.

B vitamins are well known to support the nervous system and have been associated with
calmer pets, less prone to anxiety. Vitamin B12 is conspicuous by its absence but fear not!
B12 is produced by all the probiotics and well absorbed in the hindgut. It’s interesting to note
that in human trials, the vegans actually had higher serum B12 than the meat eaters.
Hilarious given that everyone thinks vegans are B12 deficient!

The mechanism for repelling fleas with Saccharomyces Cerevisiae has not been
satisfactorily explained but suffice it to say that pets taking PET Plus which contains
significant quantities of Saccharomyces Cerevisiae are generally less bothered by fleas. This
feature seems to be enhanced by the presence of omega-3 essential fatty acids, of which
there are also plenty in PET Plus.

The plethora of antioxidants in Saccharomyces Cerevisiae adds to the vast range of
antioxidants provided by all the other ingredients in PET Plus offering wonderful support for
the immune system and overall health and well-being.

And finally, I just learned from ‘Regenerate’, a mind blowing fascinating book by Sayer Ji
(page 93), that along with some other probiotics, ‘Saccharomyces cerevisiae T8 is able to
transmute metals (for example manganese into iron) and accelerate the decay of the
radioisotope radioactive caesium (Cs-137), which has a half-life of 30 years, transforming it
into a form of barium (Ba-138), with a half-life of only 310 days’.

So why the fear mongering among the chattering groups on social media? In excess, it is
possible that the fermentation for which Brewer’s yeast is used in industry to make beer
could result in the production of intestinal gas. Dogs are well known for passing gas with
ease, so this is only a social problem! With the combination of nutrients and micronutrients in
PET Plus, there simply is no excess gas.

So, all things considered, I think the negative social media misinformation is founded on
nothing but hot air (hearsay).
